Hub & Spoke Reopens Search for Director of Development

BOSTON—March 28, 2022—Back in September 2021, the team here at Hub & Spoke announced that we’d received a major gift from the Rasmussen Family Fund that will allow us to build a professional fundraising operation and begin to test our hypothesis that there’s a sustainable niche in the podcasting world for independent, humanities-focused podcasting.

We put out a call for a development and communications manager who could help us realize that vision. A flood of job applications came our way, and we had the pleasure of interviewing some absolutely fascinating and wonderful people about the position.

The interviewing process was an education for the entire Hub & Spoke board, and it helped us think even more carefullly about what we’re trying to accomplish and what kind of help we need. Ultimately, we decided to go back to the drawing board and rewrite the job description, with a stronger focus on the fundraising and development aspects of the job as opposed to the communications aspects (though we still believe fundraising is fundamentally about sharing stories). The original job description was also a little stiff and boilerplatey—so we also tried to infuse the new version with a sense of who we are, as people and as an organization.

We’ve now posted the updated job description here at hubspokeaudio.org and on a number of nonprofit-focused job boards. In short, we’re looking for an experienced, organized, persuasive, and credible nonprofit fundraiser who can hit the ground running and help us to refine a story and a “theory of change” around independent public-interest podcasting that will resonate with major donors. This person will also have experience identifying and recruiting these donors, setting up systems to track and manage donor development and donor relationships, and designing and implementing a membership program and annual fundraising campaign to build and strengthen our ties with smaller donors.

If that sounds like you or someone you know, please check out the full job description and send a resume and cover letter to jobs@hubspokeaudio.org. Or if you have questions about our search, reach out to us at info@hubspokeaudio.org. Thanks!

UPDATE, June 17, 2022: This position has now been filled. We look forward to sharing more details about our fundraising efforts!
